
1. Decide the Type of Passport
- Regular Passport (10 years validity for adults; 3 or 5 years for minors).
- Emergency Travel Document (if needed for urgent travel).
2. Prepare Required Documents
- Original Birth Certificate and a copy.
- National Identity Card (NIC) and a copy.
- Photo studio acknowledgement
- For minors:
- Original Birth Certificate.
- NIC copies of both parents.
- Consent letter from parents.
- Old Passport (if applying for a renewal or if previously issued).
- Marriage certificate (if applicable and name has changed due to marriage).
- Proof of residence (utility bills or a letter from the local Grama Niladhari).
3. Fill Out the Application Form
- Obtain the passport application form at the Department of Immigration and Emigration office or download it from this link

- Fill out the form carefully, ensuring all details are accurate.
4. Pay the Fees
- Passport fee depends on the processing time and type of passport:
- Normal Service: Around LKR 10,000.
- One-day Service: Around LKR 20,000.
- Payment can be made at designated banks or counters at the Department of Immigration.
5. Submit the Application
- Visit the Department of Immigration and Emigration office.
- Main Office: Battaramulla.
- Regional Offices: Kandy, Matara, Vavuniya, or other branches (check the website for a full list).
- Submit your completed form and documents.
- Biometric data (fingerprints and photograph) will be collected during the submission process.
6. Receive the Passport
- Normal Service: Passport will be ready in 10-15 working days.
- One-day Service: Passport will be ready on the same day (if application is submitted early).
